Why flap condition matters
A case taper can only apply consistent tape if the carton flaps are controlled. Some lines have operators fold the flaps before the carton reaches the machine; others need automatic flap closing to reduce manual handling and keep the process moving.
When automatic flap closing is useful
Flap closing becomes more important when output increases, operators are needed elsewhere or carton presentation must be consistent for downstream conveyors, labelling or palletising.
Carton quality and product fill
Overfilled boxes, light board or cases with strong flap memory can make flap closing more difficult. Samples or photos of packed cartons help check whether a standard approach is suitable.
Questions to ask before specifying
Confirm carton size range, case weight, flap style, output target, infeed direction and whether there is enough straight conveyor length before the sealer.
Next step
For a practical recommendation, send carton dimensions, packed case weight, tape details, target output and photos of the current packing area. The aim is to match the case taper to your cartons and workflow, not to force a standard machine into the wrong process.
