Comparison method

Compare machine routes against one common evidence pack.

A fair comparison uses the same cartons, tape, run sequence, operator tasks and acceptance criteria for every option.

Compare the complete operating cycle

Include case erection, packing, flap folding, presentation, sealing, label application and removal. A machine that seals quickly can still leave a bottleneck if the operator cannot prepare cartons or the outfeed fills faster than cases are removed.

Separate maximum capability from normal production

Ask suppliers to explain the conditions behind any stated output. Your evaluation should use sustained operation with representative filled cartons, normal changeovers and the people who will operate the equipment.

Use measurable acceptance points

  • All agreed carton sizes feed without damage or repeated jams.
  • Tape is centred and cut cleanly on top and bottom seams.
  • Changeover steps are repeatable and documented.
  • The machine interfaces correctly with surrounding equipment.
  • Operators can load tape and carry out routine checks using the supplied instructions.

Final technical resource layer

Compare the operating evidence, not only the machine label

Semi-automatic, automatic, uniform and random machines create different responsibilities for carton preparation, format control, line signals and acceptance.
